Peewee/Bantam/Midget Drill Manual - This unique drill manual allows
coaches to train players to master the patterns that make up the flow
ofthe offensive and defensive systems and practice these patterns under
game specific pressure. Included are drills to practice Defensive Zone
Coverage, Fast & Delayed Breakouts, Neutral Zone Regroup, Neutral Zone
Forechecking, Offensive Zone Penetration, and Specialty Teams (Power
Plays & Penalty Killing).These drills are designed to teach players to
quickly choose the offensive passing options and defensive checking
options within these patterns that are best suited to help produce the
right results. The manual contains 25 drills designed to create game
specificity in practices by practicing systems and tactics under more
unpredictable and chaotic circumstances within creative flow.

The ‘Team Canada Skills of Gold' DVD set - Complete series is
comprised of 8 DVDs, contained within 2 volumes. The DVDs break down
theprimary skills of hockey for coaches and players in a clear and easy to
follow format.  The series is designed to enhance the skills of hockey
players of all ages and skill levels. This DVD series features over 6
hours of educational footage, and focuses on eight different areas of
hockey skills including skating, puck control, checking, team play and
off-ice training techniques. ©2005

DVD 1 - SKATING:   Progressive skills and drills designed to develop
and improve a player's skating ability, with instruction in balance,
agility, edge control, starting and stopping, forward skating, backward
skating, turning and crossovers;  52 minutes.

DVD 2 - PUCK CONTROL: Progressive skills and drills designed to
develop and improve a player's ability to handle the puck, through
instruction of puck control and passing and receiving, both while
stationary or moving; 58 minutes.

DVD 3 - SHOOTING AND SCORING: Progressive skills and drills designed
to improve a player's ability to shoot and score, with instruction on
sweep shots, wrist shots, flip shots, snap shots, slap shots, tips and
deflections and dekes; 27 minutes.

DVD 4 - CHECKING : Includes instructions on the four-step progression
to teach checking skills that begins the very first time a player takes
to the ice, including development of positioning, angling, stick
checks, contact confidence and body contact; 53 minutes.

DVD 5 - OFFENSIVE TACTICS: Covers the fundamentals of offensive
tactics in the defensive, neutral and offensive zone; 56 minutes.

DVD 6 - DEFENSIVE TACTICS: Covers the fundamentals of defensive
tactics for individual players as well as team defensive tactics
throughall three zones. Topics include: skating, 1 on 1 defensive technique,
back checking, backside support, shot blocking, 2 on 1 rush defense;
forechecking, defensive zone coverage, etc.; 37 minutes.

DVD 7 - TEAM PLAY: Covers the concepts of defensive zone coverage,
breakouts, transitions and regroups, offensive zone play, forechecking,
special teams and faceoffs; 61 minutes.

DVD 8 - OFF ICE TRAINING: An inside look at off ice training
techniques that will enhance a players abilities on ice. 51 minutes.


**These are two new updates to the current development library of
manuals and videos that can be accessed by any Sherwood team.  Please
contact Baron Delaney to sign out anything from the library, or to book
use of the DVD and TV that is available in the office.




  UPEI / HOCKEY PEI DEVELOPMENT SKILLS CAMP - Tuesda
  Hockey PEI and the UPEI Men's and Women's hockey teams will be holding a skills development camp at the APM Centre in Cornwall Tuesday, March 16 from 8am-3:30pm.  The camp is open to all male and female Atom and Pee Wee aged players. The first 50 skaters and 8 goalies to register will be accepted.  The one day camp consists of both on and off ice activities.  On ice instruction will be tailored to the A and AA level.  All participants will have UPEI players as group leaders for the entire day.  All participants receive a Hockey PEI jersey and other HPEI merchandise.  The cost of the camp is $60.  See attached for more details.  For more information or to register contact Mike White at 368-4334 or email mike@hockeypei.com.  Please forward this message on to anyone that may be interested.



  REMINDER - 2010 SPRING POE CAMP REGISTRATION DEADL
 

2010 POE SPRING CAMP ANNOUNCED

 

The 2010 Mark's Work Wearhouse Program of Excellence (POE) Spring Camp is set to be held April 15-18 at the MacLauchlan Arena on the UPEI Campus in Charlottetown.  The camp will see both the Male Under 16, 15 and 14 and Female Under 18 and 15 take place on the same weekend.

 

This year's Spring Camp camp is mandatory for all players interested in being considered for the 2011 Male or Female Canada Games Teams. Males born in 1995 (or later) and Females born in 1993 (or later) will be eligible for the 2011 Canada Winter Games teams.  Special Consideration may be granted to players who are unable to attend the Spring Camp.  See attached Special Consideration Form.

 

The POE, organized by Hockey PEI, the Development Council and its designated Coordinators, is used to identify the provinces best hockey players. 

 

The Spring camps will accept a maximum of eighty (80) players at each group; Male Under 14 (born 1997), Male Under 15 (born 1996), Male Under 16 (born 1995), Female Under 18 (born 1993, 1994, 1995), Female Under 15 (born 1996, 1997, 1998). Ages are determined as of December 31st, 2010.  Registrations are on a "first come, first serve" basis and are open to all male and female players who meet the age criteria in Prince Edward Island.  The fee for the Spring Camp is $100.00 and the deadline to register is March 12, 2010.

 

Up to forty-five players from each group will be identified and selected to attend the POE Summer Camp in August.  From here players will be identified and selected to form the teams which will represent the province at the Atlantic Challenge Cup to be held in Moncton, New Brunswick, Thanksgiving weekend. 

 

Charla Currie, Female POE Coordinator and Phil Batt, Male POE Coordinator both agree that the POE provides players and staff with an opportunity to develop, learn and challenge themselves as they strive for excellence. 

 

Both the male and female groups are looking for interested coaches to assist with the upcoming camps.  Those interested in evaluating at the Spring Camp, who have a minimum NCCP Coach Level 1 certification are asked to submit their interest to the Hockey PEI Office.
